TYPOGRAPHY COLLAGE
TYPOGRAPHY COLLAGE
Project Description:
These two collages are based around the word “drift” and utilize type and image to communicate this feeling.
The word-only collage uses the word “absence” due to its close association with the word “drift.” The word and letters follow a pattern, giving the viewer a sense of what should be. Pulling the “n” out of this pattern creates a sense that something is missing. The “n” is placed upward and skewed to the right to give a sense of airiness and convey drift.
The type with image collage is still pulling from the ideas of drift, however, instead of using words, it utilizes letters as forms. The form in the corner is a mass of jellyfish tentacles, although they do not have to be recognized as belonging to a jellyfish, as they still give a sense of floating. The Os are taken from different sources and are in different weights and sizes to make it seem as though the jellyfish had an origin point (indicated by smaller Os) and is no longer there.
Objective:
From a list of given words, choose one and create two collages: a type-only collage and a type with image. Only use physical, printed items such as magazines and posters for image and type sources
